You do not need an unlimited list of career options. You need a way to see plausible directions from where you are now.

When people begin considering a career change, they often search for familiar titles, compare themselves with job descriptions, or imagine that a meaningful pivot requires starting over. This can keep the same limited set of options circulating, even when other possibilities are close by.

Your next direction may grow from capabilities, experiences, relationships, interests, and knowledge you already carry. When these are transferred, adapted, combined, or used in a different context, they can open possibilities that were difficult to see from inside your current role.

This live, two-hour virtual workshop helps you explore those possibilities without asking you to select a final destination.

You will not be expected to identify the one perfect career. You will develop several plausible directions that are close enough to investigate and different enough to expand what you can see.

What is a possibility within reach?

A possibility within reach is not necessarily the most obvious next job. It is a direction that becomes possible from your current position because it builds on something you already know, value, understand, or make possible.

Some capabilities can transfer directly into a new setting. Others may need to be adapted to a different problem, audience, or environment. A capability may also be repurposed in an unexpected way, creating value that it was not originally developed to provide.

These nearby openings are sometimes called the adjacent possible: possibilities that may not be available all at once but become reachable from where you are now.

What you will do

Using LEGO® Serious Play® model-building, guided reflection, and the Career Probe Field Guide, you will:

• Select a capability, experience, strength, or interest as a starting point
• Build a visual model of what you already carry and the contexts in which it has created value
• Explore how that starting point could transfer, adapt, or be repurposed
• Combine what you carry with different problems, people, settings, or needs
• Generate several plausible career directions rather than search for one perfect answer
• Notice which possibilities feel both meaningful and reachable
• Choose one direction or question that deserves further investigation

You do not need to arrive knowing which capability to explore. The workshop will help you identify a useful starting point. There is no correct way to build, and no artistic or LEGO-building skill is required. The meaning comes from the story you give your model, not from what it looks like.

By the end of the workshop, you will have:

How much will you need to share?

Career possibilities can be personal. You will be invited to explain the meaning of your models and discuss the directions you are exploring, but you decide how much personal detail you want to share.

Materials

You will need your own LEGO pieces or a comparable collection of building pieces. Purchasing the recommended LEGO® Serious Play® Starter Kit is the simplest option, but you may use your own varied collection of bricks, figures, connectors, and movable or symbolic pieces.

Take this workshop on its own

This is the third workshop in a four-part series for navigating nonlinear career change. It delivers a complete possibility-exploration experience on its own. You do not need to complete the first or second workshop or commit to the full series to participate.

If you completed Workshop 2, you may bring forward a capability you identified there. If you are beginning with this workshop, you will identify a useful capability, experience, strength, or interest to explore during the session.

The complete series helps you understand what is making movement difficult, recognize the capabilities you can carry forward, explore adjacent possibilities, and design a small experiment to test what comes next.

You may register for this workshop individually or choose the complete four-part series.
